New Albany parents, students enlist lawyer after resignation of theater director

NEW ALBANY, Ohio (WCMH) – A middle school theater director’s resignation took center stage at New Albany’s city council and school board meetings, with more than 400 parents and students enlisting an attorney’s help to try to get answers.

“The New Albany Middle School theater department has remained the strongest and most welcoming family I’ve ever known,” rising eighth-grader Ruby Stetson said. “But now, with her gone, 88-plus children will pay the price.”

Melissa Gould resigned on May 8 after nine years heading the New Albany Middle School theater program. Middle school students spoke at a June board of education meeting and begged the district to rehire Gould, and hundreds of community members enlisted attorney Gregory Vincent to demand answers from city council.
