MONONA, Wis. (WMTV) – The Bait Shop has been serving ice cream since 2004, and with summer temperatures climbing, the shop is staying open until 9 p.m.
The shop carries an old-school feel, serving malts, sundaes and homemade waffle cones. It also stocks bait for local fishermen and hires local high school students for their first jobs.
Owner Dean Schroeder lives on-site at The Bait Shop. He said the shop is the kind of place he has built to keep neighbors returning.
“Well like I say, it’s kind of an old fashioned place to come to and look at all the different antiques. There’s not a lot of flashy things, but it’s just kind of a fun place to look at all different things, go to the beach, come and get your ice cream. Make a fun day out of it, and make yourself happy,” Schroeder said.
The extended evening hours give people a chance to walk and grab ice cream after sundown.
Blake Winge, a student employee at the shop, said customers visit on a regular basis…
