Carrollton is getting ready to trade quiet evening skies for a 15-minute burst of red, white and boom, as the city’s annual Independence Day fireworks show returns to Josey Ranch Lake on Friday, July 3. The professional display is scheduled to begin around 9:30 p.m., and city officials are already warning that parking near the launch site will be extremely limited, with Keller Springs Road near the lake set to close temporarily during the show. Attendees can sign up for text alerts about weather or schedule changes, and residents are being reminded that personal fireworks are not allowed inside Carrollton city limits.
According to the City of Carrollton, the free display will light up the sky over Josey Ranch Lake shortly after sunset, at about 9:30 p.m., with a rainout date of Sunday, July 5 if storms force a postponement. There will be no on-site festival or carnival atmosphere this year; the city says this is strictly a viewing event from the grassy banks, nearby parks and designated parking lots. Visitors are asked to respect surrounding property owners, avoid blocking alleyways or lawns and check the city’s fireworks page or call 972-466-4850 for the latest updates.
Road Closures And Travel
In a post on X, the city announced that Keller Springs Road will be temporarily closed between N. Josey Lane and McCoy Road from 8:45 p.m. to about 10:15 p.m. During that window, any vehicles parked in alleyways or on other people’s lawns risk being towed at the owner’s expense. The city is urging attendees to text “CFIREWORKS” to 888777 to receive real-time updates on potential weather impacts or time changes. If Keller Springs is part of your normal Friday night route, you will want to plan an alternate way around the lake and budget some extra travel time.

Where To Watch And Parking
To help thin out the crowd at the water’s edge, photo-op stations will be set up at nearby parks, Carrollton Community Voice reports. That should make it easier to grab a good view of the show without packing in right at the launch area. Since parking at the lake itself is extremely limited, residents are encouraged to walk in from nearby neighborhoods when possible or use the city’s designated parking areas to avoid a traffic snarl. Folding chairs, blankets and plenty of water are all fair game, but you will want to arrive early, because the prime grassy viewing spots typically fill up well before sunset.
Safety And The Law
Carrollton Fire Rescue is reminding everyone that it is unlawful to possess, sell or discharge fireworks inside city limits, and that includes common consumer items such as sparklers and bottle rockets, the City of Carrollton says. On the national level, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons notes that U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates put emergency-room-treated fireworks injuries at about 14,700 in 2024. That kind of statistic is a big part of why Carrollton sticks with one professional display instead of allowing private fireworks shows in town…
