HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — Originally set for July 2, Ellis Park will celebrate opening day on July 4 due to extreme heat throughout the heat.
Opening day at the race track has been pushed back twice due to the extreme temperatures. According to the Horse Racing Integrity and Safety Authority, horses cannot race, when the heat index is 105 degrees or higher.
From July 4th, it’s a two month sprint with the season ending on Aug 23…
