Riverton home engulfed in flames after sound of explosion; occupants escape, cause under investigation

RIVERTON, Utah, July 4, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of a two-alarm blaze Friday night that engulfed a Riverton home and forced two occupants to flee after they heard popping noises followed by what they described as an explosion.

The fire was reported about 10:30 p.m. at a home near 12400 South and 2700 West, Unified Fire Authority Capt. Patrick Costin told Gephardt Daily.

The first firefighters to arrive found heavy fire in the attached garage extending into much of the home’s first floor. Crews launched an aggressive attack and quickly knocked down the blaze…
