Evansville Police Department accepting applications for 12-week Community Academy

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — The Evansville Police Department is inviting residents to apply for its upcoming Community Academy, a free 12-week program designed to give participants an inside look at how the department operates.

Police say the academy will run on Tuesdays from Aug. 11 through Nov. 17, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the CK Newsome Center. The program is open to anyone 15 and older. Participants under 18 must attend with a parent or guardian.

According to EPD, topics planned for the academy include SWAT, K-9, street crimes, sex crimes, narcotics, the bomb squad, the crime scene unit, domestic violence, mounted patrol, homeless outreach, and dispatch and jail tours. An optional motor patrol ride-along may also be offered…
