Customers of Wegmans Food Markets raised a record-breaking $769,300 during the company’s two-week food drive to support local food banks’ increased summer needs.
This event known regionally as either “Fill the Bus” or “Fill the Backpack” ran from June 3 to June 17. In just those two weeks the community came together to ensure that those bags were full. In Pennsylvania alone an amount of $99,238 were raised with west Erie and Peach Street’s location coming in at $27,008 in donations.
This generosity was enough to fund 57,000 nutritious meals (23,000 more than last year) in response Community Food Bank of New Jersey Ceo Elizabeth McCarthy said, “With food insecurity on the rise, it’s heartening to see that support from the public is increasing, too. Thank you to Wegmans and their generous customers for helping advance our mission.”…
