Maysville Looked Like Christmas in June While a New Holiday Movie Was Being Filmed

Somebody, somewhere in Hollywood must have put out the word that Kentucky is (or must be) the perfect Christmas state (or commonwealth). I only say that because cities like Owensboro, Henderson, and Somerset have been the chosen locales for multiple film crews shooting holiday movies over the last few years.

So, we might as well add another town to the list. That town is Maysville, about an hour east of Cincinnati/Covington on the Ohio River. The birthplace of the late music icon, Rosemary Clooney, already knows a thing or two about show business for the reason I just named, but now, the town itself is ready to be a star, as the faith-based comedy All That Glitters at Christmas has wrapped after about a month of filming. The shoot began on Memorial Day weekend.

The story focuses on a widower who trades in his high-powered, stress-filled Wall Street life for the pulpit of a small-town church getting ready for Christmas. Ironically, it’s a craft store owner who hasn’t been inside a church since being ditched at the altar on her wedding day. In other words, a holiday love story with all the trimmings.

Other Towns Considered for Kentucky Christmas Movie

After passing on Elizabethtown, Shelbyville, and Paris (all worthy options, considering their picturesque downtown areas), a Cincinnati location scout settled on Maysville. And naturally, once filming began, Maysville, in the heat of summer, began to look a lot like Christmas, and yes, everywhere you go (downtown, anyway).

This isn’t Maysville’s first go-round in the cinema spotlight; the horror movie Bones and All was shot there in 2022…
