The conversation surrounding data centers isn’t slowing down in Indiana.
As communities across the state wrestle with proposals for the new facilities, nearly one-third of Indiana counties have now adopted local restrictions, temporary pauses, or outright bans while they determine how they want to regulate future development.
That statewide trend comes just days before a public hearing in Warrick County, where residents are expected to weigh in on proposed data center ordinances.

More Indiana Counties Are Pressing Pause
According to WFYI, the Indiana University Environmental Resilience Institute has identified:
- 11 Indiana counties with permanent data center ordinances
- 17 counties with temporary moratoriums
- 2 counties, Marshall and Cass, that have banned new data centers altogether
