SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO)– Active weather has continued throughout KELOLAND for the first half of our week. More showers and thunderstorms moved through Tuesday and Wednesday, and some of those storms were severe.
This has been pretty common throughout this month so far. On July 2nd, a few tornado warnings were issued in eastern South Dakota. An EF1 tornado was confirmed on this day in Huron, and it caused damage to outbuildings and trees. What really stands out, though, is the large number of severe thunderstorm warnings.
This is double the number of warnings from 2025 during this time period. Many of the severe thunderstorm warnings occurred West of the River, but eastern KELOLAND had a few as well, along with one tornado warning in Yankton County.
