Avoid the Delays: More Bridge Inspections Next Week in Shreveport

Is that Northwest Louisiana bridge that you use every day actually safe enough to cross?

That’s what the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is trying to find out. It’s that time of year again. Time for routine bridge inspections and in order to do that, drivers are going to be slightly inconvenienced for several more days in the coming week.

In case you don’t remember, last week the DOTD advised us that there would be a number of ramp and lane closures in the Shreveport/Bossier area.  Some of those inspections have already been completed, but according to that schedule, DOTD still has to inspect the following this weekend:

  • Saturday, July 11: I-20 over the RR crossing near Greenwood, Caddo Parish, eastbound outside lane closure
  • Sunday, July 12: I-49 northbound & southbound over RR crossing south of LA 511 (70th Street), outside lane closure

Additionally, the following inspections will require lane/ramp closures this coming week in Shreveport:

  • Monday, July 13: I-20 eastbound lane closure over Lakeshore Drive
  • Tuesday, July 14: LA 3132 westbound to I-20 westbound ramp closure
  • Wednesday, July 15: I-20 eastbound to LA 1 (Market St) southbound ramp closure
  • Thursday, July 16: LA 3132 westbound to I-49 northbound ramp closure
  • Friday, July 17: LA 3132 westbound to I-49 southbound ramp closure

These ramp and lane closure are anticipated to be in place from approximately 9:00 am to 3:00 pm each day and can only be completed “Weather Permitting” so any inclement weather could delay, extend or alter in other ways the scheduled work day/hours.

Routine bridge inspections are conducted on a regular cycle by specially trained inspectors. These operations are critical to identifying maintenance issues that should be addressed, and to ensure the structures remain in service to the traveling public.

Please drive with caution through the bridge inspection zones, and remain alert for specialized equipment and crews that will be on site…
