Friday evening update: It has been a very busy end to the work week with severe storms rolling through the area. Tree and power line damage was reported from a microburst in the Augusta area. We expect things to quiet down after sunset with the loss of daytime heating, however we can’t rule out a few showers or rumbles of thunder overnight.
Get ready for more of the same Saturday as the air mass continues to be loaded with tropical moisture. Expect showers and storms firing up during the afternoon and evening. Just like Friday, a few of these could become strong to severe, carrying the threat of localized damaging wind gusts and heavy downpours that could quickly drop visibility.

Instead of scattered afternoon pop-ups, we can expect much more widespread showers and storms to develop across the area. A few of these could become strong to severe, carrying the threat of localized damaging wind gusts and heavy downpours that could quickly drop visibility. Heavy rain will be a concern as well. The upper-level winds are steering parallel to the front, which means storms could repeatedly move over the same spots (training effect). This could lead to localized flooding in low-lying or poorly drained areas…
