(WPDE) — The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has been awarded a $23.5 million federal grant to help replace 18 aging bridges across the state, including 12 in the Grand Strand and Pee Dee.
The funding comes through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grant program.
The bridges are located in Berkeley, Colleton, Darlington, Dorchester, Florence, Georgetown, Horry, Marion and Williamsburg counties. According to SCDOT, many of the bridges are between 50 and 100 years old, are in poor condition, and some have weight restrictions or are currently closed…
