Marion County woman steals collection of tarantulas from man who recently got out of jail, deputies say

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — A Marion County woman is accused of selling a man’s tarantula collection while he was in jail.

According to Marion County deputies, Stephanie Lauren Brooks, is facing charges of dealing in stolen property and petit theft after a victim reported his spiders missing. He discovered they were gone when he returned home from Marion County Jail.

Deputies say the man later learned from family dembers that Brooks stole the tarantulas. He reported almost $600 in losses, losing multiple spiders including a striped devil tarantula and a golden knee choco tarantula…
