Judiciary Commission to weigh misconduct in Baton Rouge judge’s reversal of rape conviction

The state Judiciary Commission is accusing Baton Rouge Judge Gail Horne Ray of misconduct for tossing out a man’s 1973 rape conviction — and life sentence — without allowing prosecutors to argue against it.

The state Supreme Court later overruled Ray, reversing her action and saying she had no authority to make that decision.

The commission, which handles complaints against judges, also says Ray failed to do “any meaningful work” in a client’s case before dropping him. That misconduct allegation stems from Ray’s work as a defense attorney before she was elected judge…
