Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo says she’ll be stepping back from public appearances after being diagnosed with infectious mononucleosis, commonly known as mono—or the “kissing disease.”
Hidalgo announced Thursday night she recently underwent extensive medical testing after “dealing with a lingering sore throat and intense fatigue.” After initially believing the symptoms were caused by exhaustion, she said additional testing confirmed she has mono.
“The only treatment for mono is rest,” Hidalgo said in a statement. “My doctor has advised me to rest so that my recovery can be as quick as possible.”
The county judge said it all started when she left Thursday’s Commissioners Court meeting early and wore a K95 mask because she was not feeling well. She also noted that, before receiving the diagnosis, she had continued attending public events because she believed she was simply exhausted…
