ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis woman has been charged more than seven months after her child died of an overdose.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement, the death happened the evening of Dec. 30, 2025. Police were called to Children’s Hospital after a 2-year-old was brought to the emergency room and pronounced dead approximately 40 minutes later.
An officer spoke with the toddler’s mother, Akia Pope, 29, who said she was with her child at their home on Acme Avenue from 8 a.m. until the child became unresponsive around 7 p.m. Pope told investigators she shared a bedroom with the child.
