Lubbock marks 25 years since accidental death of SWAT Sgt. Kevin D. Cox

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The city of Lubbock is observing the 25th anniversary of the death of Police Sergeant Kevin Cox, who was accidentally shot and killed during a SWAT standoff on July 13, 2001.

The incident began as a domestic dispute at a home near 87th Street and Geneva Avenue around 11 a.m. Officers said the husband refused to come out of the house. Cox was killed by friendly fire during the standoff.

Cox had served with the Lubbock Police Department for 16 years at the time of his death…
