SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Dr. Mehmet Oz has responded to Representative John Mannion’s letter regarding the troubled Van Duyn Center for Rehabilitation & Nursing.
Administrator Dr. Oz’s letter is dated July 14. According to him, there have been “meaningful improvements” made at the facility since a New York State Department of Health survey was conducted in May. The NYS Department of Health conducts the surveys on behalf of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Dr. Oz wrote to Mannion that the survey showed that as of May, the Department of Health (DOH) has not found any “immediate jeopardy” citations. The DOH lists immediate jeopardy citations as violations that could cause immediate harm or death to a nursing home resident. It’s the most severe label on a scale of three other categories…
