PERRYSBURG, Ohio (WTVG) – Local restaurant owners say they are taking steps to protect customers during a cyclospora outbreak, from adjusting menus to increasing communication with produce suppliers.
Checking sourcing, washing produce
Jose Carlos Mendez, owner of Cocina de Carlos and Lupitas Cantina, said he contacted his supplier directly when the outbreak emerged.
“I called my supplier and I asked him hey are we safe with this problem and he said yeah, all the produce we have is local and it’s safe,” Mendez said.
Mendez said his restaurants take several steps to prevent illness, including checking produce daily, checking labels, spending extra time washing fresh produce, and cutting vegetables in-house rather than using precut or processed options…
