Lubbock man arrested after secretly filming over 500 videos of victim

LUBBOCK, Texas — Juan Contreras, 37, was arrested and charged Monday with invasive visual recording after he recorded dozens of photos and hundreds of videos without the victim’s consent or knowledge.

An affidavit obtained by EverythingLubbock.com revealed that in February 2025, the victim filed a complaint with Lubbock authorities stating that she had reason to believe that she was being filmed and photographed without her consent and that the suspect had taken photos of an intimate area. In April 2026, the victim reported to the Lubbock police that she had found a cell phone wedged beneath her bed, positioned to point directly at the en-suite bathroom doorway. She also informed the officers that the phone did not belong to any of her family members or friends.

In May 2026, authorities conducted a forensic examination of the device that the victim located, which housed over 30 images and over 500 videos taken inside the victim’s residence. Court documents say that data and findings also found video of the suspect, later identified as Contreras, placing, testing and adjusting the device where the victim later discovered it. The cell phone also included photos of the front and back of Contreras’s driver’s license, according to court documents. The relationship between Contreras and the victim was not specified.

On June 17, 2026, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Contreras, who was apprehended on July 13, 2026, in the 2000 block of 15th Street by the Lubbock Police Department. He is currently in the Lubbock County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond…
