SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A contractor has filed a federal lawsuit against Springfield City Utilities, alleging the utility failed to disclose naturally occurring radioactive material inside a natural gas pipeline before a 2023 cleaning project and still owes the company more than $1.3 million.
The lawsuit was brought by Paxon Energy & Infrastructure Services, LLC against the Board of Public Utilities of Springfield last week.
According to the lawsuit, City Utilities sought bids in late 2022 to clean approximately 19 miles of a 16-inch natural gas transmission pipeline between Marionville and Springfield. The bid documents described the material inside the pipeline as “oil-based sludge.”…
