SPARKS, Nev. (KOLO) – On Tuesday, July 14, 2026 Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam released a statement regarding the exploration of law enforcement consolidation after sitting down in an exclusive interview with KOLO 8 News Now. Balaam said the effort is focused on manpower, funding and modernizing public safety services. According to Balaam, the county and city may not be able to meet contractual obligations by 2030 if changes are not made, citing staffing and revenue constraints tied to regional growth.
The City of Reno has not received a proposal or data related to consolidation at this time, according to a statement released on Tuesday.
