Cyclospora cases rise in Iowa as foodborne illness spreads across the U.S.

DES MOINES, Iowa – Health officials are monitoring a growing foodborne illness outbreak that has sickened thousands of people across the country, including several cases in Iowa.

The Polk County Public Health Department says it has investigated 19 cases of cyclosporiasis so far this year, compared with 11 cases during all of last year.

Iowa Department of Health and Human Services has identified 57 cyclosporiasis cases in 2026, 55 of them reported after May 1st. About 50% of those are related to international travel…
