Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans announces changes after flooding

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans says it is already making changes following last weekend’s flooding, including increasing staffing, expanding monitoring and reviewing employee training after pumping problems contributed to Saturday’s high water.

During a board meeting Wednesday, Executive Director Randy Hayman said the agency is analyzing automatic, unmanned pump stations across New Orleans to determine whether additional monitoring or operational changes are needed.

The review follows issues at the unmanned Pritchard Pumping Station, where one of two pumps went offline during Saturday’s storm. Officials say the pump had to be restarted manually, affecting water levels in the area for about two hours…
