SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Local tenant advocates are rallying community support to ensure renters facing eviction don’t have to navigate the courtroom without help.
Springfield Tenants Unite (STUN) is hosting a community event Tuesday evening at Moontown Sound to build momentum for a proposed “Right to Counsel” ordinance. The initiative would guarantee legal representation for local tenants during eviction proceedings; a measure organizers say is vital to curbing homelessness across the city.
“Housing insecurity is always at the back of my mind,” said Graham Scoville, communications liaison for STUN’s Court Watch team. “It makes it really hard to strive as an individual and grow yourself and give back to the community you’re living in when you’re always worrying about having a roof over your head.”…
