A nightclub that originally was to open last month on Douglas in downtown Wichita is finally ready — and another one is closed after a short run.
First, the closure: In case you hadn’t already noticed, cocktail bar The James & Rye at 917 E. Douglas closed its doors several weeks ago, not long after celebrating its one-year anniversary. I reached out to owner Bobby Decker several times about the reason for the closure but never got a response. Since then, all the signs have been taken down, and the building has been listed for lease by Emily Hazlip of Commercial Property Services Group, LLC.
Over the years, the space has been home to several businesses, including Forge ICT, District Taqueria and Jon’s Ale House.
The bar that’s about to open is Dreamers Cocktail Lounge, which is moving into the old Marple Theater space at 417 E. Douglas. Vorshay’s Cocktail Lounge vacated the space in early May after eight years…
