What looks like an ordinary spool of plastic is helping fuel one of manufacturing’s fastest-growing technologies, and it’s being made right here in Chattanooga.
As part of NewsChannel 9’s Amazing America series, we visited LayerWorks, a local company producing American-made 3D printing filament used by hobbyists, engineers and major manufacturers across the country.
The business began after owner Jonathan Holman found himself using so much filament for his own 3D printing operation that he decided to make it himself.
“We started as a print farm, and we were using so much filament that we started making it,” Holman said. “We started sharing it. And people really, really liked it. The stuff that we were making was a lot better than what we were buying, like on Amazon.”…
