Local flavors take flight at Akron-Canton Airport

Travelers passing through Akron-Canton Airport now have an opportunity for sampling home-grown foods and goods from Northeast Ohio.

The airport has created a new market in the main terminal in partnership with the Northeast Ohio Ag Innovation Center at Ohio State University that offers products from local farms. The market, which opened in early July is being curated by the Purplebrown Farm Store, based in Peninsula.

“(The products have) sold even faster than we anticipated. People really want to support local businesses,” said Lisa Dalpiaz, the airport’s vice president for air service and business development. “I think there’s a sense of, ‘We probably need to be mindful of what we’re eating and try to eat more local,’ and this is just going to fuel that.”…
