Karankawa peoples receive new historical marker in Corpus Christi

Dozens of people were in attendance for the unveiling of a new historical marker to honor the Karankawa peoples at the Hans & Pat Suter Wildlife Refuge on July 25.

A former historical marker dedicated to “Karankawa Indians” was erected in 1976, but after tribal and community members voiced concerns of historical inaccuracies, a new one was requested from the Nueces County Historical Society.
