Wichita city council debates removing shelter bed requirement from camping ordinance

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A discussion about the City of Wichita encampment ordinance turned spirited during a city council meeting on Tuesday.

Mayor Lily Wu brought up the issue at a workshop meeting on Tuesday morning.

The camping ordinance says that it is illegal for a person to camp on public property or a public right-of-way, unless they have a temporary permit. The ordinance also states that any person violating the ordinance can be removed immediately, along with their personal property, and that the person may be cited with a violation if they refuse to leave…
