Residents rescued from their homes. Historic structures collapsing under the weight of raging flood water. Streets closed, cars underwater. These were some of the sights around eastern upstate New York hit hard Wednesday by sustained rain and flash flooding.
The greater Capital Region down to the Hudson Valley were hardest hit, and several communities declared emergencies as clean up efforts began.
Schodack in Rensselaer County saw a total of nearly 12 inches of rain, according to Albany Mesonet. Residents said they have never seen anything like it, and not even Hurricane Irene caused the amount of damage seen here…
