AUGUSTA, Ga (WJBF) – A proposal from the Defense Health Agency came earlier this year for the Eisenhower Army Medical Center to be downgraded to an ambulatory care facility. The change would transition emergency care to urgent care, with the facility moving away from inpatient service.
Representative Rick Allen of Georgia’s 12th District is against the decision to downgrade Eisenhower. The National Defense Authorization Act for the 2027 fiscal year passed in the House of Representatives on July 22nd. Representative Allen included a provision in the bill to help prevent the center from changing its service.
Representative Allen said there was a companion bill in the Senate, but it failed to move forward. Both Georgia Senators voted against that bill progressing. The Senate now has the House version of the bill to consider…
