According to Sheriff Bobby Webre, detectives with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office have obtained an arrest warrant for John Ruiz, 44, of Plaquemine, in connection with a copper wire theft investigation. Ruiz is wanted for one count of Theft $1,000 but Less than $5,000, one count of Simple Criminal Damage to Property; and one count of Criminal Trespass.
On Wednesday, June 24, deputies responded to a theft complaint in Prairieville. The victim reported that more than $4,000 worth of copper wire had been stolen. During the investigation, detectives with the Property Crimes Unit identified Storm Melancon, 33, of Gonzales, and John Ruiz, 44, of Plaquemine, as suspects.
On July 1, Melancon was taken into custody and was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on multiple charges. John Ruiz, 44, of Plaquemine, remains at large and is wanted in connection with this investigation.
