LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) — In a Friday news conference, the Lakeland Police Department is expected to announce arrests in two homicide cases, including a shooting that killed a grandmother and injured three other family members on Christmas Eve in 2020.
This would be the second arrest made in connection to the case. In March, Taqiy Lewis, 27, of Lakeland, pleaded guilty in federal court to possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon in connection with the shooting.
Maebelle Cooper, 70, was shot and killed in her front yard on Christmas Eve in 2020. Her daughter, her daughter’s husband and their 13-year-old daughter were also wounded in the attack.
Earlier that day, 15-year-old Ralph Lamones III met with an acquaintance at Simpson Park to have her reset a cellphone he was purchasing from her. He was robbed of $220 at gunpoint and the suspects drove away in a silver Hyundai Sedan, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court…
