Grand Rapids has a new kind of neighborhood hangout, where a Hawaiian-inspired plate lunch, an Italian frozen dessert and a cold beer can all happen within a few steps of one another. Picnic on Wealthy pairs permanent food trucks with a landscaped garden built for lingering, complete with shaded seating, string lights, hammocks and a fire pit.
The outdoor gathering space opened in May in the former Outside Coffee Co. location near the East Hills neighborhood, with Pacific Moon and Waldorf Creamery serving as its anchor vendors, according to MLive. The result is less a quick food-truck stop than a summer destination where people can settle in for dinner, dessert and a little neighborhood people-watching.
Pacific Moon brings South Pacific flavors to the courtyard, with a menu shaped by Hawaiian and Indonesian influences. Waldorf Creamery, the rebranded Grand Rapids business formerly known as Semifreddo, adds fresh cheeses, sandwiches and semifreddo-style desserts, as AOL reported.
Food Trucks With A Brewery Next Door
The setup becomes more useful once the neighboring taproom enters the picture. Holland-based Our Brewing Company now operates a Grand Rapids location next door, creating a built-in pairing of food-truck fare, outdoor seating and craft drinks…
