As flooding continues to hit waterways from the Texas Hill Country to the Coastal Bend, officials are pleading with the public to be cautious as they try to beat the heat, following a reported drowning.
Uvalde County Sheriff Ruben Nolasco took to social media in the late afternoon on Saturday, August 1 to ask the public to “be very cautious while swimming in the Nueces River.”
“Just a reminder that the Nueces can be unpredictable. Currents, sudden changes in water level, and hidden hazards can make swimming more dangerous than it looks,” he said in a statement on social media.”Uvalde County Deputies are currently assisting TPWD with a drowning that just occurred on the Nueces River by Cooksey Dam.”
He added additional reminders that folks should not swim alone or when unsafe, keep an eye on children at all times and avoid swimming after heavy rain or when water looks rough.
