Kalamazoo Institute of Arts announces campus expansion project

KALAMAZOO, MI — The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts is launching a major renovation and expansion project aimed at expanding educational space, upgrading studios and improving air quality across its campus.

The Creative Commons project will begin construction on Monday, Aug. 3, and continue through 2027, transforming how the museum and art school serves students, artists, educators and visitors.

“The Creative Commons transformation is about much more than adding or improving physical space,” said Michelle Hargrave, executive director of the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts. “It is an investment in how people experience the KIA and in what will be possible here in the future for our community for decades to come. As we think about the KIA’s next century, we are asking how our campus can better support the people who use it every day.”…
