ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – Roanoke City Council received an update Monday on options to reduce the city’s deer population, following complaints from businesses and residents about damage caused by the animals.
Townside Gardens, a local business, has been among those hit hard by deer coming down and eating merchandise. One of its owners started a petition asking the city to do more to address the problem.
The city already has a contract with an individual who conducts deer culling, though that person typically only operates in January. To supplement existing efforts, the city is planning to create an urban archery program to allow more deer hunting by bow within city limits…
