Three convicted nearly five years after Asheville man’s killing

Nearly five years after an Asheville man was fatally shot during a home invasion, three people have been convicted in the case.

Boyce Shane Plemmons was found shot to death at an Asheville home in September 2021. Investigators with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office said Willie Byrd and Carmen Gillespie broke into the home, threatened Plemmons with a gun, stole his cellphone and fatally shot him. Authorities said Cross Beaver served as the driver.

The investigation took detectives across multiple jurisdictions. Byrd and Gillespie were arrested at an Asheville hotel in October 2021, where investigators said they found nearly a half-pound of methamphetamine. Beaver was arrested separately in Cherokee County…
