SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — About 40 elementary and middle school girls from the Syracuse area are taking part in STEM From Dance at Syracuse’s Community Folk Art Center.
The three-week summer program, now in its fourth year, uses movement to make subjects like coding and engineering more engaging and easier to understand.
“Because this program has been here for four years, we’ve actually seen girls grow and develop through this program summer after summer. But even if the girls are new in the program we see them building communities and relationships with each other building confidence and then also having conversations about who they may want to be professionally in the STEM world and I think that’s tremendous growth and the actual intention of this program,” said Dr. Tanisha Jackson, Executive Director of the Community Folk Art Center and assistant professor in the department of African American Studies at Syracuse University…
