The Russell County Sheriff’s Office wrapped up its second annual Junior Deputy Academy on June 26, giving local youth a full week of immersive, hands-on exposure to law enforcement careers and leadership skills.
The program, held June 22-26, introduced cadets to a wide range of law enforcement functions through interactive training and live demonstrations. Participants learned about patrol operations, criminal investigations and basic crime scene processing. They also received instruction on K-9 operations, SWAT equipment and tactics, school safety procedures and coordinated emergency response.
In addition to technical skills, the academy focused on personal development. Cadets took part in physical fitness activities, team-building exercises and leadership challenges designed to strengthen confidence, responsibility and respect for others.
