Corpus Christi police say man drove into, shot at construction zone

Corpus Christi police arrested a man on Aug. 4 who they said drove while intoxicated through safety barriers into a Southside construction zone and later fired gunshots in the area.

Joel Garza, 44, is facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and deadly conduct with a firearm, the Corpus Christi Police Department said in an online post.

At 2:40 a.m. on Aug. 4, officers responded to a report of a suspected intoxicated driver who drove through signage and safety barriers into a marked construction zone at Yorktown Boulevard and Oso Parkway, the city of Corpus Christi said in a news release…
