CHARLESTON — Even after several visits to the nondescript building at the corner of Huger and Senate streets, I still felt a sense of anticipation after ringing the doorbell and waiting for the buzzer to sound. When the red, wooden door opened, there was a swell of excitement.
Visits to The Faculty Lounge — a moody, speakeasy-style cocktail bar located at 391 Huger St. — often served as the perfect nightcap to an evening spent downtown. The cocktails were tasty, the lights were dim and the vibe was low-key. Sometimes, there was an off-beat movie playing on the television that enhanced the quirky atmosphere.
