Shifting winds overnight aided firefighters in combating a wildfire that has been burning in the Mount Hood National Forest and threatening popular resorts and historic buildings.
As of Thursday morning, Aug. 6, the Grasshopper Fire has burned 43,244 acres. It is 23% contained thanks to the work of more than 1,400 personnel. Fire officials confirmed no spot flames have jumped Highway 35, despite mixed reports on social media.
Yesterday firefighters continued mop-up operations along the eastern edge of the fire while the southern perimeter remained secure.
