Former Florence dispatcher files EEOC complaint, claims she was pushed to resign after reporting unwanted contact by deputy

FLORENCE, Miss. β€” A former dispatcher for the Florence Police Department has filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, alleging she was forced out of her job after reporting what she described as a hostile work environment.

Joanna Karras worked for the City of Florence for more than four years, taking 911 calls and coordinating emergency responses. She said the situation began after she reported what she called inappropriate behavior by a Rankin County deputy.

Alleged incident in dispatch room

Karras said the incident occurred last October during a shift at the Florence PD dispatch room. Surveillance video shows Rankin County Deputy Michael Cody Rayborn entering her desk area. She alleges he lifted her sleeve without permission.
