SIOUX FALLS. S.D. (KELO)– We have been starting off August mostly dry in KELOLAND, after receiving some much-needed rain at the end of July.
From July 28th through August 3, many locations have picked up at least an inch of rain. Northeastern KELOLAND recorded some of our highest totals in the five- to seven-inch range.
These numbers were taken into consideration for this week’s drought monitor update, but the thing is, portions of northeastern KELOLAND are not even in drought. Let’s see if we were able to make some improvements for those of us who are dealing with drier conditions.
We do have some good and also bad news with the latest drought monitor update released Thursday morning. There was a slight decrease in drought across all categories in eastern KELOLAND, but unfortunately, West River is continuing to see an increase in drought.
We will have to keep a close eye on this, as any rainfall totals we do get over the weekend are going to stay on the lighter side…
