License plate reader helps nab axe-wielding burglary suspect in Fresno, police say

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man who caused $1,000 in damage trying to break into a Fresno business was arrested thanks to help from a license plate reader.

Police named the suspect as 32-year-old Jesus Ponce Deleon.

According to officers, he drove to a property near Butler and South Orange avenues on Tuesday, July 28, around 3:30 a.m. After parking, he jumped over their south wall.

From there, officers say he stole an axe from a shed and used it to try to pry open a glass door, causing over $1,000 in damage…
