Van Nuys Home Invasion Ends in Child Abduction and a 200-Mile Police Chase Up the 5 Freeway
A toddler was taken from his home on a Wednesday morning. By early afternoon, he was safe. The five hours in between is the part that deserves more than a two-paragraph news update.
At approximately 8:12 a.m. on August 5, 2026, LAPD responded to a home invasion kidnapping at the 7600 block of Van Nuys Boulevard, near Saticoy Street. A man forced his way in, took a 3-year-old boy, and fled. Police believe it may have started as a custody dispute.
The suspect was gone fast. And so was the window for a clean resolution.
The Morning It Happened
The suspect was described as an adult male with black hair and brown eyes, wearing a black shirt and black sweatpants. He left in a black Chevrolet Equinox rental car with Oregon license plates. LAPD noted he may have had a firearm in his waistband…
