Alta Adams

Chef Keith Corbin originally opened Alta Adams — an ode to the California soul food he grew up eating in Watts — in 2018 with chef Daniel Patterson. Now the sole owner, Corbin closed the West Adams staple for three months at the beginning of the year, during which time he refreshed the rustic interiors and menu. In early June, Alta Adams 2.0 made its debut, and Corbin’s seasonal California offerings inspired by the South and L.A. include ambitious dishes such as black-eyed pea salad, suya-spiced bone marrow, confit duck leg and West African osso buco. 5359 W. Adams Blvd., West Adams

Brick Lane

After showing his deftness with South Asian cuisine at Orange County’s Kahani at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel, India-born chef Sanjay Rawat teams with restaurateur Rishma Shariff on this modern Indian restaurant in the Arts District. Named for the London street, Brick Lane marries traditional Indian flavors with California ingredients in dishes Rawat makes using a wood-fired grill and tandoor — such as charred sweet potato chaat, mor milagai branzino and applewood butter chicken. Rustic Canyon’s Kathryn Coker helms the wine and Horacio Cortez creates cocktails with South Asian flavors. 1331 E. 6th St., Arts District

Mish

This nearly 4,000-square-foot delicatessen is a passion project for chef Eric Greenspan, who scored a James Beard Award nomination when he opened The Foundry on Melrose and recently helmed the Tesla Diner. Here, he puts a modern spin on Jewish tradition with wood-fired bagels and hand-carved sandwiches. Try classics such as the pastrami Reuben and tuna melt, or playful dishes like babka French toast and Shakshuka “In a Hole.” Dara Yu (Bouchon Bakery, Dominique Ansel) makes baked goods like black and white cookies, and Julian Cox concocted beverages like the Lemon Halva Matcha. 127 S. La Brea Ave., Fairfax
